Philosophy of Program
The Doctor of Philosophy program aims at producing graduates who have expertise in creating new body of knowledge of anatomy and structural biology via research activities, with a moral and ethical responsibility in the work.

Expected Learning Outcomes
1. Graduates exhibit honest, responsible, disciplined, and punctual behaviors including complying with regulations; and maintain ethical standards in academic and research contexts.
2. Graduates explain substantial body of knowledge, research processes, and the concept of research topics; and discuss on the latest developments including research techniques in anatomy and structural biology.
3. Graduates demonstrate their expertise in the use and application of research equipment in the field of anatomy and structural biology.
4. Graduates are able to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate scientific problems in a systematic and theoretical context; and able to take initiative in designing and carrying out research or developing projects on their own, with wide and deep view in order to develop new knowledge and innovation in the field of anatomy and structural biology.
5. Graduates possess a good relationship with colleagues, receive and process feedback; and possess desirable attributes of leadership and society membership.
6. Graduates are able to analyze and process mathematical or statistical data involving in their research effectively, with the use of appropriate information and communications technology.
7. Graduates are able to utilize both oral and written communication skills to present their research outputs effectively via oral presentations and publications to international scientific community.

The candidate must hold Master of Science in Anatomy, Pathology, Biology, Physiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Biology, Medical Technology, or other life or biomedical sciences.
  - GPA not less than 3.50 out of 4
  -

The candidate must have at least 1 research works published in national or international journal, and must be listed first in the work.
  - English proficiency test passed the criteria by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University
     
  Plan 2 Candidate with the Master’s degree or equivalent degrees

The candidate must hold Master of Science in Anatomy, Pathology, Biology, Physiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Biology, Medical Technology, or other life or biomedical sciences in any related fields with GPA not less than 3.50 out of 4.
  - English proficiency test passed the criteria by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University
     
  Plan 2 Candidate with the Bachelor’s degree

Candidate must hold Bachelor of Science or M.D., DVM. or DDS or any equivalent degree with GPA not less than 3.50 out of 4.

  Remark: Any exceptions to the above-mentioned requirements may be made by Programme Committee and approved by Dean of Faculty of Graduate Studies.
     
  Selection will be done by examination and/or interview, based on consideration of the candidate’s
  qualifications and experience by Administrative Programme Committee, subjected to approval by Dean
  of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
  5.1 For a student holding a master’s degree: no more than 3 academic years
  5.2 For a student holding a bachelor’s degree: no more than 4 academic years
  - Students must register as full time students.
  - Students must enroll no more than 15 credits per regular semester, and in a minimum of 3 credits and a
  maximum of 6 credits per summer semester.
  7.1 Evaluation
    Student evaluation is in accordance with the rules and regulations of Mahidol University.
   7.2 Graduation Requirements
  - A student must obtain GPA not less than 3.00
  - Pass English Proficiency Examination with a TOEFL score equal to or more than 500, or other
    English tests with equivalent level of proficiency.
  - Must participate in activities to enhance soft skills (work skills and living in society) in accordance with the criteria of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University
  - Pass Ph.D. qualifying examination.
  - Pass the oral examination of the dissertation.
  - Plan 1: Have at least one published, or in press, or accepted publication from the research work in an international peered-reviewed journal with the student named as the first author.
  - Plan 2: Have at least one published, or in press, or accepted publication from the research work in an international peered-reviewed journal with the student named as the first author.
8. Student Supports and Mentoring Service
          Each student will choose a major advisor and a thesis project by the end of the first semester.  According to the criteria of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, students shall present and defend their thesis proposals after passing written and oral qualifying examinations.  Thesis advisory committee members are entitled to follow closely the progress report at least once every semester.  To assure the quality and transparency of the student research conduct, Chairman of the Thesis Defense Committee will be an expert in the related field who is not a member of the Graduate Committee, and at least one external expert in the field of research must be included in the Thesis Defense Committee.  Furthermore the quality assurance in research shall be achieved through publication of the research finding in peer-reviewed in the international journals.
Students could obtain financial support from advisor’s research grant, i.e. grants from the Thailand Research Fund (TRF), the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), the Royal Golden Jubilee Ph.D. programme (RGJ) and collaborative Research  Network in Anatomy (CRN-Anatomy) of the Higher Education Commission.  Traveling fund for research presentation at the conferences is available from the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
9. Collaboration with Other Departments/Institutions
              International linkages have been developed with a support from the TRF, NSTDA, RGJ and CRN-Anatomy of the Higher Education Commission. Apart from international collaborations, the department also has local collaborations with other universities and research institute, e.g. Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics Mahidol University, Chaing Mai University, Songkla University, Burapha University, Kasetsart University, and Charoen Pokphand Company.     
10. Student Job Opportunities
              The number of graduates in the field of Structural Biology and Advanced Microscopy is still limited in Thailand.  Therefore, a student who graduate from the Programme can be a lecturer as well as a research or at other universities or research institute.
