On Friday, August 30, 2024. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somluk Asuvapongpatana (third from the right), Head of the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, welcomed a dean (fourth from the right) and visitors from College of Science, National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), Taiwan.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Athikhun Suwannakhan (second from the right), an anatomy instructor, also participated in this event presenting innovative anatomy teaching methods to the NTNU delegation. Assoc. Prof. Kornkanok Bunwong (first from the left), Assistant Dean for Educational Affairs served as the representative host of the Faculty of Science, Mahidol University.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Athikhun Suwannakhan guided the visitors through the Anatomy Museum, highlighting the use of 3D models and 3D printing technology to enhance students’ understanding of anatomical structures. The department uses 3D scanning and photogrammetry to create highly detailed digital models of cadavers [3D Resources], which are then made available to students for self-learning.

Acting Capt. Naret Chantharangsikul, a computer technical officer, demonstrated the use of three-dimensional virtual technology (3DVT), including Augmented Reality (AR), in anatomy education. Utilizing the zSpace platform, the department offers virtual anatomy lessons that allow students to engage with anatomical structures interactively before practicing with real cadavers.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somluk Asuvapongpatana subsequently guided the visitors to the anatomy lab, where Asst. Prof. Dr. Athikhun Suwannakhan presented an overview of the department’s practical anatomy courses for basic science undergraduates. The delegation observed an active practical session, gaining valuable insights into the department’s teaching approach.

Before moving on to tour other labs, the Dean and the NTNU delegation gathered for a group photo.
